The District 47 baseball tournament in Three Rivers began Tuesday with a Wildcat shutout victory, 2-0 over the Sturgis Trojans. The quick contest lasted under 70 minutes thanks to efficient pitching from Alex Minger, who threw a shutout on only 77 pitches. Minger allowed only three hits and one walk with no runs or strikeouts.
Sturgis pitcher Sam Leck finished with five hits, two earned runs, two walks, and six strikeouts. Carson Charvat led off the second inning with a single and was brought in by Bryce Morlan. In the fifth inning, Gavin Charvat’s one-out single and stolen base led to an RBI single from Zack Ludwig.
Sturgis’s year ends at 19-14-1, although with no seniors on the roster, they’ll undoubtedly will be a threat next year. Three Rivers improves to 18-13 and hosts Vicksburg at 10 a.m. Saturday. You can listen to that game and the rest of District 47 Saturday through Michigan Sports Radio and the Slocum Sports Network.
