This weekend, the Western Michigan Stallions face off with the Calvin College Knights in a home-and-home series. Saturday’s game can be heard live online via the Slocum Sports Network with a 5 p.m. puck drop from Wings West in Kalamazoo. Meanwhile, Friday’s contest is set for 8 p.m. from Calvin and can be viewed via Calvin’s Livestream.
The Stallions are off to a perfect 4-0-0 start so far this season. Three weeks ago, they defeated Lewis University 6-2 and 9-3, then won two weeks ago 7-4 and 3-1 at the University of Pittsburgh. This weekend’s games will be the first against a Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League foe, although these two games won’t count toward the league standings. (Only two games played do and these two squads meet again in November).
For Calvin, this is their season debut and first ever series within ACHA Division 1. The Knights have been a Division 3 power for many years and made it to the national championship last season. Although the Knights have lost their top-five goal scorers from last year, they most notably return goalie Alex Cross, who allowed just under two goals per game and had a .932 save percentage.
The series begins Friday night at Calvin with an 8 p.m. start., which can be seen via Calvin’s Livestream. Then, listen live Saturday on the Slocum Sports Network with puck drop at 5 p.m. from Wings West in Kalamazoo.
