The Coldwater Cardinals grabbed a road sweep at Marshall Wednesday, defeating the Redhawks 25-7, 26-24, 25-23. Coldwater had a balanced attack, led unofficially with 11 kills from Tyler Scheid. Malorie Rzepka had eight, followed by Jasmine Wellet with seven. Mackenzie Benham topped Marshall with seven.
Coldwater dominated the first set and held firm throughout a fairly back-and-forth second set. Marshall rallied from a seven-point hole in the third to even it at 23-23, but ultimately the Cardinals survived to take the first match of Interstate 8 Conference play.
Coldwater moves to 15-2-2 overall and Marshall drops to 15-11. The Redhawks return to action next Wednesday at Parma Western, with Coldwater heading to Portage Northern Saturday. Listen back to Wednesday’s match below:
