The Portage Central Mustangs earned a 2-1 road victory at Loy Norrix Saturday afternoon, matching the score from last year’s home win over the Knights.
The Mustangs got both goals from junior Michael Ketteman, the first of which came with 12:08 remaining in the first half. 38 seconds later, Ketteman struck again, giving him 9 goals on the season. Loy Norrix added their lone goal before halftime with 5:25 left from Jorge Rojo. The Mustangs clamped down and limited the Knight opportunities in the second half. Portage Central keeps their streak alive, allowing no more than one goal in each of their 2017 contests.
The win moves Portage Central to 6-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in SMAC play, while Loy Norrix falls to 5-5-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the SMAC. The Mustangs meet defending state champion East Kentwood at home Monday, then travel to St. Joseph Tuesday. The Knights head to Three Rivers Monday, followed by a trip to Lakeview Tuesday.
