The Comstock Colts started the 2017 fall campaign with a win on their home pitch Friday, defeating the Bloomingdale Cardinals 4-1. Comstock started the scoring 42 seconds into the contest on an Evan Veenhuis goal. Just over five minutes later, senior midfielder Seth Ansel struck gold for a 2-0 Colt lead.
Bloomingdale’s lone score came 15 minutes into the first half from junior midfielder Kalub Harris. The Colts matched it just before the midway point of the first with Veenhuis scoring on a penalty kick. The score remained at 3-1 into halftime with only one score in the second, coming on an impressive shot from junior David Thomas in the 48th minute.
Unofficially, Comstock freshman goalkeeper Logan Hicks made five saves. Bloomingdale’s Gabriel Perez faced a barrage all game, as the sophomore needed 16 saves just to keep the Colts at four goals.
Comstock’s second match of the year is at home Tuesday against Bangor. Bloomingdale travels to Fennville Monday, then opens Southwest 10 Conference play at Cassopolis Wednesday.
