PREVIEW: MIAA Tournament Positioning At Stake as Kalamazoo Hosts Calvin

Base 5-6
Listen live Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET on the Slocum Sports Network
as the Kalamazoo College Hornets host the Calvin College Knights in a baseball doubleheader to conclude the regular season.  Saturday’s games will be the third and fourth of their season series, with two games at Calvin set for Friday.   The games will make a big impact on the final MIAA standings with the conference tournament looming next week.

Kalamazoo enters the weekend at 17-7 in the MIAA, sitting second and unable to catch first-place Adrian (21-3).  The Hornets are locked-in to the four-team tournament, currently ahead of Hope (15-9).  Kalamazoo does hold the tiebreaker and Hope has the misfortune of ending against Adrian, but the Hornets are hoping to seal up the second spot and a first-round game at home with success against Calvin.   The Hornets (25-11 overall) also hope to add to their 25 wins, which set the mark for the most in a season for the program.

For Calvin, they enter the weekend in the fourth spot at 12-12 (18-18 overall).   However, it’s a small cushion with Trine (11-15) and Alma (10-14) still lurking behind them.   The Knights need success to remain in fourth and possibly challenge for third if Hope struggles.

When Kalamazoo and Calvin met at the end of last season, they split their four games.   The road team won each time, with the Hornets winning 4-3 and 16-11 (10 innings) at Calvin, and the Knights winning 3-2 and 10-4 at Kalamazoo.

Listen live to Saturday’s season finale on the Slocum Sports Network with game one scheduled for 1 p.m.   The first game will be seven-innings, followed by a nine-inning second game.   The games can also be seen Saturday via the Kalamazoo College Livestream.
