Listen live Tuesday afternoon on the Slocum Sports Network starting at 2 p.m. with the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Cougars hosting the Lansing Community College Stars in a baseball doubleheader. The MCCAA Western vs Eastern Conference showdown could serve as a momentum builder as both squads vie for the top spots of their conference.
The Cougars are 15-14 overall and 12-4 in the MCCAA West, third behind Kellogg (16-0) and Grand Rapids (13-3), with a three game lead on Muskegon (11-9). With Kellogg looming in four games this weekend (each to be broadcast on the Slocum Sports Network) the Cougars need to be on top form to keep their league title hopes alive and to stay within the top three to advance to the Region XII tournament next month.
Lansing is 27-9 overall and 15-5 in the MCCAA East, only a game behind Jackson (16-4) for the top spot. Similar to the Cougars, the Stars have four-games ahead for the weekend with Jackson, which could put them in first, or allow Delta, Mott, and/or Macomb to make-up their four-game deficits in the standings.
Tuesday’s games are the first of the season between the Cougars and Stars, with a second double-header set for next Tuesday, May 2, in Lansing. They faced off three times last May, most recently in the Region XII tournament with the Cougars eliminating the Stars 14-9. Kalamazoo Valley hosted and won the regular season games 11-2 and 5-0. Two seasons ago, Lansing hosted and won both games of a double-header (7-5, 8-4).
