RECAP: Grillo’s Hat-Trick Leads Stallions to 4-2 Win vs #22 Indiana Tech

The Western Michigan Stallions earned a 4-2 win over #22 Indiana Tech Friday evening thanks to a three-goal performance by forward Brandon Grillo and solid goal-tending by Brandon Haase.   Grillo gave the Stallions control right off the bat, scoring 43 seconds into the game with an assist from Devin Farkas and Zach Mudge.   Three minutes later, Mudge fed Grillo, leading to a 2-0 lead which held into the intermission.

The Stallions added to the lead with 15:18 left in the second period on a Niko Michos score, which chased starting goalie Chet Tooker from the net for the Warriors after facing 14 shots.  Zach Larson replaced him and didn’t let any in the rest of the way, allowing Indiana Tech a chance to fight back.

Within the first two minutes of the third period, Nick Papandrea put the Warriors on the board and a few minutes later, Adam Jonak scored on a powerplay to put Indiana Tech back within a goal.   Despite a number of chances, especially in the third period, Stallions goalie Brandon Haase held firm the rest of the way against the Warriors.   He finished with 44 saves on 46 shots.   With a minute remaining, Grillo scored his third of the evening, again assisted by Mudge, to seal the victory.  Grillo now has 12 goals on the year.
