Two unbeaten boys basketball teams hit the court at Hackett Catholic Tuesday with only the host coming away unblemished. The Irish topped Schoolcraft 50-39, putting them at 6-0 and dropping the Eagles to 5-1.
After scoring the initial basket, Hackett trailed for much of the first half. Schoolcraft had a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and didn’t lose the lead until late in the second quarter. The Irish used a 17-5 frame to take a 26-22 lead into the break. They only outscored Schoolcraft by two in the third quarter, but were able to expend the lead into double-digits and assume full control in the fourth.
Teddy Oosterbaan topped the Irish with 15 points and teammate Heath Baldwin scored 14. Leading Schoolcraft were Riley Piper and Hunter Johnson, each with eight.
Both teams will be at home on Friday for their next action. Hackett hosts Delton Kellogg and Schoolcraft meets Kalamazoo Christian. It will be girls and boys varsity for both. Meanwhile, the Schoolcraft girls were able to grab a road win over Hackett, taking the contest in overtime by a 45-42 final. That puts Schoolcraft at 5-1 with Hackett to 6-2.
