Listen to boys high school basketball Tuesday on the Slocum Sports Network with teams at 5-0 colliding in Kalamazoo. The Hackett Catholic Irish will be hosting the Schoolcraft Eagles in a key early meeting within the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Valley division.
Hackett is trying to build off of last season’s unbeaten regular season and 24-1 record overall, the one loss coming in the state quarterfinals. So far in their five wins this season, each victory has been by 20+ points. However, all of their opponents to this point currently hold losing records.
Schoolcraft finished 12-7 last year and like Hackett, has won each game this season by double-figures. All but their 61-50 opener over Berrien Springs were won by 30+ points. Like Hackett, each of Schoolcraft’s opponents currently hold losing records.
It’s a key conference game with four squads off to strong starts within the Valley division. Like the Eagles and Irish, Delton-Kellogg is off to an unbeaten start (4-0), and Kalamazoo Christian sits at 4-1. All four have yet to lose in conference play.
Despite Hackett’s overall dominance last season, Schoolcraft gave them very tight contests in their two meetings a season ago. Hackett came away the winner in both, 47-44 on their floor and 54-45 at Schoolcraft. Hackett won both meetings the season before as well, with Schoolcraft getting both wins back in 2013-14, their most recent victory coming on January, 31, 2014.
