KVCC Women, Ancilla Men Earn Wins

Kalamazoo Valley Community College split Saturday’s home doubleheader against Ancilla College, with the Cougar women taking a 72-51 win, followed by an 88-49 Charger win in the men’s contest.

The women’s contest was led the entire way by Kalamazoo Valley.   While they only led by five after the first quarter, they extended it to 16 by halftime and to 21 for the final.  KaLeah Ryan led the way with 24 points with another 18 from teammate Chloe Salman, pushing KVCC to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in MCCAA play.    Shelly Daniels topped Ancilla with 18, as they fall to 7-5 and 1-1.

Meanwhile, the men’s contest was very tight initially, despite the lopsided win for Ancilla.   The Cougars held a six-point lead toward the start and kept the game close for much of the first half, with the score at 22-22 around the eight minute mark.    From there, the Chargers started draining three-pointers en route to an 18-2 run.  The Cougars made it back within 11 by halftime, 42-31, but the damage was already done.  Ancilla continued to pile on, making 16 three-pointers total, on their way to an 88-49 win.

Dylan Phair led the scoring with 23 points, including five makes from outside the mark.  Jair Rodgers had six three-pointers and 22 points total.   Leading KVCC was EJ Finch with 13.  The Cougars drop to 6-7 and 0-2 in MCCAA play, while Ancilla jumps to 12-1 and 2-0.

Both schools return to the floor Wednesday for doubleheaders at home.  Kalamazoo Valley welcomes Kellogg with Ancilla hosting Mid-Michigan.
